Ellis Powell
*ELLIS POWELL (Carpenter, '07) TET –T-01-565- (26”-MRe-6”-Sev) – ONLY BELIEVE X J. T. DAVIS – Having a positive attitude is certainly a good thing and it is said that if we only believe all things are possible. I thought that crossing ONLY BELIEVE with a heavily ruffled parent might give rise to an improved new daylily. When ELLIS POWELL first bloomed as a seedling I was ecstatic. Here it was – a new double edged flower of extravagant ruffling and beauty. For its six years in testing it has never been a disappointment- always consistently beautiful and a great performer. While the flower does not even compare to the person for whom it is named, we are so very pleased to have been allowed to use his name for it. With 4 way branching and 23 buds per scape and repeating scapes the garden is blessed with blooms of grace and charm for a long season. Fertile both ways easily.

Pink Pristine Beauty *PINK PRISTINE BEAUTY (J. Bomar, '07) TET – BT-03-P – (21”-6.5”-MRe-Ev) – SONG IN MY HEART X MOTHER OF MANY – Josie did well with bringing us this lovely daylily. “PRISTINE” refers to the gloriously clear, bright pink color of the flower. Having seen thousands of pinks over the years I feel that this is one of the purest and clearest in hue of pinks I have seen in both tets and dips. PINK PRISTINE BEAUTY is a very flat-faced, roundly formed flower with sepals of a medium pink and petals of a deeper pink that have moderate ruffles around their edges. There is a soft pastel lavender watermark passing into the green throat. Scapes have 4-way branching with 20 buds and repeat. Fertile both ways.

Ring the Bells of Heaven *RING THE BELLS OF HEAVEN (Carpenter, '06) Tet T-01-585 – (24” - 5.75”- MRe-DOR) – parentage-UNENDING MELODY X sdlg. In every respect this is a wonderfully delightful cultivar. The foliage is very beautiful and scapes display the lovely flowers beautifully. As can be seen from the picture the flowers are near bi-color in appearance and this supports the fact that it is a good parent for bi-colors. RING THE BELLS OF HEAVEN was my first thought when I first saw the bloom open on this one. Fertile both ways and a wonderful parent with 5-way branching and 28 buds.

Semac *SEMAC (Carpenter, '08) TET - T-03-SE/MAC - (24”-MRe-7”-Ev) – SUPREME EMPIRE X MARK ALLEN CARPENTER - When this cross was made the anticipation was for a large 7” flower with sculpting in it. The genes combined in such a way as to give a beautiful very smooth flower that has substance that is thick and wax-like and extremely heavy. The name SEMAC was a take on the abbreviation of the two parent’s names. SEMAC is always open and flat-faced and has very large flowers of a bright golden color. The flowers often take on an unusual form with sepals extending far beyond the petals when it first starts blooming. The scapes have 3-way branching with 19 buds. This is a wonderful flower with bold and assertive presence in the garden. SEMAC is fertile both ways with pods more difficult.

Song of the Empire *SONG OF THE EMPIRE (Carpenter, '06) TET - T-01-566 – (28”-MRe-5.75”-Sev) – SUPREME EMPIRE X AMERICA’S MOST WANTED – This cultivar is hands-down the most outstanding breeder I have had for the deeply fissured sculpting characteristically now seen in daylilies. SONG OF THE EMPIRE has strong sturdy erect scapes with 4 to 6 way branching and 45 or more buds per scape with as many as 70 on one scape. The scapes also repeat. The substance is very heavy as is characteristic with many of the deeply sculpted cultivars. Very fertile both ways. SONG OF THE EMPIRE is consistently and deeply sculpted on every bloom. There are several future registrations having this as a parent. Highly recommended.

Texas Feathered Fancy *TEXAS FEATHERED FANCY (Carpenter, '06) Dip D-01-FIT – (20”-5.25”-MRe-DOR) – LAVENDER BLUE BABY X Unknown – This was the first seedling to bloom from LAVENDER BLUE BABY having that special new characteristic which we call feathering in the throat. It later appeared in some Tet LBB kids. In any case this cultivar has been in tremendous demand for some time and there are many reserves on it for that reason. It is unique having the very thick and hardened “feathers” in the throat area of the petals. Fertile both ways.

T-02-RD – (29”-LRe-7”-DOR) - parentage- RUSHING DELIGHT X (LARRY GRACE X TET ROYAL PINK TWIST) – The name conveys my evaluation of these large, stately, flat-faced, heavily ruffled flowers. Blooms start at 8” plus and remain consistently large to the last flower on each scape. The flowers are of heavy substance and remarkably round and very flat-faced with only slight re-curve. T-01-524 – (25”-MRe-6.5”-Ev) – AMERICA’S MOST WANTED X (TET DENA MARIE X SDLG.) – I consider myself very fortunate to have known the late Tony Houseman, the very special person for whom this daylily is being named. He was a gentleman, and scholar, and his philanthropy and generosity have been well known throughout the Southeastern Region of Texas. TONY HOUSEMAN is blessed with strong four-way branched scapes that have up to 30 buds. The flowers are yellow and have an open flat-face form and are large and extravagantly ruffled with diamond dusting. The diamond-dusted, ruffled edges have a frosty sparkle to them and brighter highlights of yellow and sometimes slight touches of green in them. Worth It All *WORTH IT ALL (Carpenter, '04) TET – 01P 1T, 00P 56T – (22”-EMRe-7”-Ev) – EARLY FRAGRANCE X TET ROYAL PINK TWIST – This cultivar has caused more comments in the garden this year than almost any other. It has been much awaited by customers for a long time due to its beauty and genetics of the TET ROYAL PINK TWIST. From EARLY FRAGRANCE (ALL THE MAGIC X TET RED STEP AHEAD) it brings genetics from another conversion, TET RED STEP AHEAD. This may account for the tremendous variation in color in this cultivar ranging from almost red at times in the early bloom to the beautiful pink shown in the picture as the season progresses. There was more effort put forth in bringing this cultivar to you through the conversion process, but let me assure you that the beauty and grace presented by WORTH IT ALL made it worth it all. The substance of this flower is impeccable and it has those beautiful, round, blunt-ended sepals which give it that added measure of grace and beauty. We are pleased to release it for everyone’s enjoyment at this time. The cultivar has three way branching with two laterals and 20 buds and scapes repeat. It has been blooming since the end of May and is in full bloom now in the middle of July. It is fertile both ways.
