How it all works. . .

The Live Aucton works just like a cattle auction. We pride ourselves on having the plants on hand at the functions so that you may take your Daylilies home with you. We have found that post card promises are just far too much work given we have the Canadian-American border to deal with.

Often we will have more than one plant of any given cultivar available at the auction. We do not announce multiples until after the winning bid is secure. Once the winning bid is secure, the winner gets his/her choice of which of the plants he/she wants. Usually, the winner will take the double division of a particular plant, although some of our winners prefere the largest plant available. If there are several winners, the choice is given in order of confirmation of the winners.

At the end of each of the three Auctions we ask that the winners please settle their accounts with the tabulators (Magaret Goode and Abraham Vanegas). We do accept Visa/MasterCard and American Express. We prefer if you can help it, not to use a business credit card as the rate is much higher on these cards. We also accept cash both American and Canadian along with checks (cheques). We will use the Bank of Canada currency exchange rate for transactions.

Please do not attempt to cash out with our tabulators during the auctions as they are far too busy keeping records. This is strictly TABOO and highly frowned upon! If bidding in the Auction you should be aware that you are to cash out at the end of the given auction that day, not before.

We do welcome proxy bidding, however, it is up to you to find a person coming to the meeting to do your bidding for you. Please do not approach John Peat, Tony Thompson, Abraham Vanegas or Margaret Goode to be your proxy bidders, they will be too busy working the auction.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency will be at the meeting on Friday between 1pm and 2pm to issue re-import cetificates for our American attendees returning home with plants. I believe the cost of these certificates are $15 Cdn. We are working with the CFIA to have everything ready and each person requiring a certificate will be issued the proper documentation to return home with. These usually are not asked for at the US Border, however, we highly recommend you obtain one as you don't want to lose plants by trying to save $15.

We hope to see you there, this is always exciting and often hilarious to watch or participate in.
