Water Mill Gardens Daylily Introductions Offered

Please note that not all the plants offered from the Water Mill Gardens appear here, there are many others being offered during the live auction of Dan and Jane from previous years. Special Thanks to Dan & Jane for the extra plants that they have donated to the meeting this year, I will put them online later after I find the list of the extras. Sorry you won't be at the meeting this year, we will drag you to Niagara next year though.

SPRING 2009 INTRODUCTIONS
Blue Eyed Angel
*BLUE EYED ANGEL (D. Trimmer) Tetraploid (Shores Of Time x Priscilla's Smile) 25” EM Re. Ev.5 3/4” Blue lavender w blue lavender eye & double edge . This is a cultivar that grows like a weed, is quite fertile and is the parent of wonderful seedlings. Due to the obvious blue tones in the eye and edge this past year I took eyes with more pure blue present to see if I could capture the size and vigor present with BLUE EYED ANGEL. This angel is well branched with just over 20 buds per scape. I've pictured a very early bloom where the base color is quite a bit deeper than later blooms.

California Kid
*CALIFORNIA KID (D. Trimmer) Tetraploid (California Girl x Tetra Grace Pierce) 30” E. Re. Ev. 7 1/4” Yellow Ivory infused very pale pink self. This imposing flower is hard to capture in a photograph because size does not translate well photographically. Most importantly this size translates onto the offspring with 8 inch flowers coming with the next generation. This Kid is fertile both ways producing round ruffled very large babies.
Value $100 SF
Dan's Paradise Pink
*DAN'S PARADISE PINK (D. Trimmer) Tetraploid (Isle Of Man x Mississippi Man) 25” M. Re. Ev. 6 1/4” Clear pink self w gold edge. This large, well branched, wonderfully clean pink flower comes into bloom about two weeks after most of our garden adding a very fresh face to the scene. Easily pod fertile.

Isle of Skye
*ISLE OF SKYE (D. Trimmer) Tetraploid (Across The Universe x Coast To Coast) 20” M. Re. Ev. 6 1/4” Ivory yellow with rouge edge This cultivar represents a color and size break in my “Edge No Eye” program. The foliage is slender with scapes holding the ruffled blooms just about the leaves. Not an easy pod parent for me, perhaps due to the later bloom season.

 Value $125.00 SF
Jamaican Rainbows
*JAMAICAN RAINBOWS (D. Trimmer) Tetraploid ((Dancing With Julie ) x Glacier Bay X Tetra Siloam Ralph Henry)) 27” EM Re. Ev. 6 1/2” Salmon Pink with small rouge eye This is a rainbow with many faces. I've pictured her with her round flat face and small edge. When well established she will at times display all kinds of cuts, folds and angel wings along with a much larger dark edge. Her offspring tend to be very large and full, giving very much the diploid look which I've been working for in my tetraploid lines for over twenty years.
Value $175.00 SF
Martin Blondeel
*MARTIN BLONDEEL (D, Trimmer) Tetraploid ((Calling All Angels x Jane Trimmer) x Tetra Peppermint Delight) 28” EE Re. Ev. 6” Rouge red with huge dark red eye. MARTIN (pronounced Blondell) was selected by a companion to my friend, Francois Verhaert. This is a very early bloom that is hard not to keep admiring as it's such bold color in the early garden, but also just for its sheer beauty. Quite fertile both ways, the parent of a lot beautiful babies

Memphis
*MEMPHIS (D. Trimmer) Tetraploid (London Calling x White Noise) 31” M. Ev. 6 3/4” Pale Pink Ivory self. This perfectly formed quite large mid season bloom is tall, well branched and virtually perfect from bloom to bloom. Here in Florida MEMPHIS blooms from late May until just before October first. MEMPHIS is a wonderful grower and increaser and may perform as a late in the north.
Value $150.00 SF
Orange Blossom Trail *ORANGE BLOSSOM TRAIL (D. Trimmer) Tetraploid ((Tequila Mocking Bird x Pumpkin Prince) x Patsy Cline)) 30” Em. Re. Ev. 5 3/4” Orange self with tiny pencil rouge eye. What makes “OBT” so special is the green underlay on an orange flower. I have an entire orange line based on this cultivar since OBT is so easy to use both ways and the green, which is so unusual in this color line carries on with the next generation as does the circular form and ruffles. Special, but quite limited due to losses following 19 inches of rain during lining out.

Value $150 SF
Paradise Royal Purple *PARADISE ROYAL PURPLE (D. Trimmer) Tetraploid (Matthew Kaskel Seedling x Bella Sera) 33” M Re Ev. 5 3/4” Dark Royal Purple with chalky watermark. The theme of our 2009 AHS convention is Daylilies in Paradise and this special purple is named for the occasion. Tall, quite large and simply glowing in the garden PARADISE ROYAL PURPLE is a robust plant making huge fans with moderate increase. PARADISE ROYAL PURPLE has fertile pollen, but a very difficult pod set for me in Florida.
Value $100 SF
Rumble in the Jungle *RUMBLE IN THE JUNGLE (D. Trimmer) Tetraploid ((Open My Eyes x Calling All Angels) x Jane Trimmer)) 27” EM Re Ev. 5” Dark peach with huge dark plum eye & edge . The picture says just about all there is to say about this cultivar. RUMBLE IN THE JUNGLE is a modest sized plant with an immodest bloom. The next generation produced larger faces with taller scapes.
Value $150 SF

Shamrock Spring *SHAMROCK SPRING (D. Trimmer) Tetraploid (Cortina x Kaskel Sdlg. “Best Edge”) 25” E. Re. Ev. 7” huge flat lavender self with very large gold edge. There's not much to add to the image except this is a very large flower that explodes onto the scene quite early in the season.
Value $100 SF
Shamrock Summer *SHAMROCK SUMMER (D. Trimmer) Tetraploid (Sdlg. X Tetra Connie Burton x Kaskel Sdlg. “Best edge”) 28” EM Re. Ev. 6 1/2” Round ruffled pink w gold edge. Another of the 'BEST EDGE” babies with those grand gold edges. SHAMROCK SUMMER is the roundest and most diploid-like of the Best Edge Kids as a result of the conversion of CONNIE BURTON in its background.

Tropical Breeze *TROPICAL BREEZE (D. Trimmer) Tetraploid (Dancing With Julie x unk. X Tetra Connie Burton) 24” Em Re. Ev. 5 1/4” Dark Ivory self with pale rouge eye & edge. This circular face is best displayed in the front of the bed where the clean attractive blooms can be best viewed.
Value $75 SF
Tropical Hot Flash *TROPICAL HOT FLASH (D. Trimmer) Tetraploid (Wild Cherry Roundup x Patsy Cline) 30” M Re. Ev. 6” extremely ruffled pale melon self. This is perhaps the most ruffled bloom I have yet produced. A full sibling to last years Pineapple Moon, TROPICAL HOT FLASH is larger, rounder, paler and just a wonderful grower, bloomer and garden subject.
Value $150 SF
Firebird Suite *FIREBIRD SUITE (Jane Trimmer) Tetraploid ((Sdlg. X Tetra Chesapeake Crab Legs) x Tetra Walter's Tango)) 40” EM Re. Ev. 8” Intense Orange self with hot red eye. The blazing orange and red color presented by FIREBIRD SUITE had many garden visitors asking, “Is that one for sale yet?” We were not able to capture the drama of this UF on film, even so, due to its limed supply it will probably be the first of any of this years offering to sell out.
Value $100 SF
Scout's Honor *SCOUT'S HONOR (Jane Trimmer) Diploid (Micro Burst x Stella Double Rose) 30” EM Re. Ev. 3 3/4” Clear red Double. Scout is our adorable cat, and SCOUT'S HONOR is Jane's superb tall red diploid double. This plant, like the micros already in commerce from Jane is a fantastic increaser, hence the multiple fan offering for the new intro.
Value $50
Tusk
*TUSK (Jane Trimmer) Tetraploid ((Mask Of Eternity x Gerda Brooker) x Tetra Rainbow Spangles)) x Freewheeling) 40” EM Re. Ev. 12 1/2” Dark Peach with intense black orchid plum eye. The name TUSK comes from the occasional 1 ¼ inch white tooth that showed up on some reblooms. Present all of the time is a fine saw toothed edging on the petals and the huge intense black orchid plum eye. Like Jane's FIREBIRD SUITE, TUSK is in very limited supply with an already long waiting list. First blooms are about 14” with 8 ¼ petals and 2 1/4” sepals; some pods.
