The flowers begin the season as a rich burgundy, with the color softening as the season progresses.  The flowers also have a lighter watermark and a green throat.  The petals are surrounded by a very heavy gold edge, which can approach 1/2”.  The scapes begin branching while still within the foliage.  Sometimes the branches themselves branch with the typical scapes having 4 laterals plus top branching, for a bud count of 40 or more.
