When selecting a purple I naturally prefer the more
violet shades as opposed to the more purple tones. The deeper, richer
and clearer the color, the more attractive it is to my eye. VIOLET
BECOMES YOU is one of the best in this regard, a deep rich vibrant
violet with a bright gold edge.
Though making a large tall plant, VIOLET BECOMES YOU
is much like its pod parent and very vigorous. If you grow one purple
for hybridizing this would be the one I would recommend. It has been
the mainstay of our purple breeding program. There were more selections
from VIOLET BECOMES YOU than any other purple last year. If you want
purples with large gold, yellow or orange edges and great substance I
would highly recommend VIOLET BECOMES YOU. If, however, you prefer
green edges on your purples I would recommend GREEN REVOLUTION as
VIOLET BECOMES YOU produced only a few green edges and only when
crossed to green edges.
Also making VIOLET BECOMES YOU a great parent is its
ease of fertility. Of all the purples I have done it may be my easiest
purple pod parent. CELESTIAL SHORE would be a close second.
Well liked and admired in the garden and an exceptionally fine daylily. Easily fertile both ways.
