John Peat is the owner of Distinctly Creative Designs and Cross Border Daylilies.

Distinctly Creative Designs was formed back in 1994 as a Web Design company primarily focussing on Gardening related web pages as a result of the owners Nursery and his affiliation with Gardening Clubs and other Nurseries. The primary focus is now Landscaping, Interior/Exterior Decorating , and Web Design in that order. This may look like a strange mix, however, the outdoor work is seasonal, so the owner brings his skills as a decorator and web designer inside during the colder months of the year and in the evenings.

In early spring before the season starts in Southern Ontario he can found on his 3.28 acres of land hybridizing daylilies during the month of May in North Florida (not to worry his business partners continue the work in Southern Ontario while he is away). He has been hyrbidizing daylilies since 1993 and in 2007 moved his operation to Orange Lake, Florida. The evolution of the new Nursery location can be seen under the  Commercial Landsaping link above.  John's hybrid creations can be seen on his Web Pages at Cross Border Daylilies.

John is the co-founding President of the Ontario Dayliy Society and the Canadian Hemerocallis Society of which he continues as the President. Further John is the Chairman and co-founder of the Canadian-American Daylily Meeting held the last weekend of March each year in Niagara Falls, Ontario.

John has appeared on several gardening shows on HGTV and also many radio talk shows relating to gardening. He has spoken and continues to speak on the subject of Daylilies at many Gardening Clubs and Daylily Societies in Canada, the United States and Australia during his career in Hybridizing Daylilies. He has also appeared in the speakers series several times at Canada Blooms.

The Color Encyclopedia of Daylilies     The Daylily: A Guide for Gardeners     The New Color Encyclopdia of Daylilies

He has co-authored three books on daylilies, The Color Encyclopedia of the Daylily, The Dayily: A Guide for Gardeners and The New Encyclopedia of the Daylily, published by Timber Press of Portland, Oregon. Further, he has also co-authored several chapters in various books on gardening by other authors. He is the Editor of the Canadian Hemerocallis Society Daylily Journal.

Originally a Systems Analyst, his hobby breeding daylilies and Landscape Design grew too big, therefore, he left the full time job in the computer field to pursue his greater passion. John continues developing and designing Web Pages for a variety of clients in various fields of interest although primarily gardening related. Most of the Web Pages that John maintains and designs can be found at www.distinctly.on.ca.
